Since 2008 I’ve switched from it to Civil 3D for two main reasons. 1) What I need for my jobs and 2) the company I work for uses AutoCAD to create architectural models (mostly) so I had to use something their company supported.
When I say “switched”, I mean full switch. Not just I use the Web App version now, but completely eliminated AutoCAD altogether. This is important since you never know what is going to happen to your computers. In my case, my computer died and we had to move everything over to another computer and the company had to re-do their models. No problem! They use Civil 3D and I’m happy.
On the other hand, using Civil 3D for my personal work is perfect. Civil 3D allows me to create, edit and edit all of my AutoCAD objects in a WYSIWYG environment. Since the software is 3D, I can manipulate my models in 3D space. This eliminates the need to scale and rotate my models. Another great feature is that you can import in 3D models from other applications like SketchUp or Rhino (If you are not familiar with Civil 3D, you can import models from these applications).
In the end, if you know what you want to do in Civil 3D and need the flexibility of AutoCAD, then AutoCAD is still the way to go. Just don’t go through the hassle of learning AutoCAD and importing all of your objects into Civil 3D.

How to write an array of strings with length=1 to file in c
I am currently working on an assignment which involves reading a number of integers from a text file into an array, and then writing the file out in a new text file.
The problem I am facing is that the file I am trying to write does not appear to have any newline characters in it, so I am just printing the character ‘
‘ to the file.
This can be simulated by:
char str[10];

When I read this string from the file into an array, only the ‘n’ is read in, the rest of the file appears to be empty.
The same thing happens when I try to write an array of strings, where the length of the array is equal to the length of the line in the text file.
For example:
char *saveArray = malloc(30*sizeof(char));
fscanf(fp, “%30s”, saveArray);
will only write” to the file.
How do I get the entire line of text to appear in the file instead of just the first character?

The fscanf function, like all other input/output functions, expects to read a string of the specified size, plus one character as a terminator.
There are three ways you can do this:
Make sure the size is large enough to hold your string plus one extra character to indicate the end of the string:
fscanf(fp, “%30[^
]”, saveArray);
Where [^
] means a character that is not a newline, including newline, and would actually just read 30 characters into the array.
When you malloc the space for the string, allocate one extra byte to hold the newline terminator:
char *saveArray = malloc(31 * sizeof(char));

Or, in C99 or later:
char *saveArray = malloc(30 * sizeof(char) + 1);
