AutoCAD 2017 21.0 X64 [Latest]
AutoCAD is a computer-aided design and drafting (CAD) software that has been around for over 30 years and is still growing today. There are more than 2,000,000 AutoCAD users world-wide and more than 400,000 currently active user groups. AutoCAD is used by architects, designers, engineers, contractors, surveyors and other professionals to draft, design and draw technical and mechanical drawings.
The following is a list of some of the things that make AutoCAD unique:
1. Software Applications and Its History
AutoCAD was the first CAD program that ran on a PC (Personal Computer). The earliest versions of AutoCAD could be purchased for under $1,000 and they ran on 8-bit microprocessors. By 1983, the more advanced versions of AutoCAD for personal computers could be purchased for under $2,000 and could be run on 16-bit microprocessors.
AutoCAD ran on computers with display controllers that took up a lot of desk space (i.e. drawing table) and could cost over $10,000. In the late 80s, the technology was evolving and computers became smaller and the display controllers were still expensive, so in 1990, Autodesk introduced AutoCAD Graphics, a graphics-only version that ran on a PC.
Fast forward to 2012, and AutoCAD LT is a complete desktop-centric alternative to AutoCAD. It is available on Mac OS X, Windows and Linux.
2. If you want to learn how to use AutoCAD, the best way is to purchase a copy of the AutoCAD LT classroom software. These classes run just like real classes with a few exceptions:
You attend the classroom and get the training from real instructors.
They have real cases to show you, with live software and drawing examples.
They allow you to work in realtime, making mistakes and fixing them on the fly.
3. AutoCAD Design Tools and Features
AutoCAD is a top-of-the-line solution for drafting and design. The flexibility of AutoCAD allows for design to be as simple or complex as you want it to be. The following are some of the most common and useful AutoCAD features:
You can create any shape you can imagine in AutoCAD, as long as it is part of an AutoCAD

AutoCAD provides a number of “customization” features, allowing users to create modifications to the software that are not normally available in the standard edition of the software, such as custom shapes, custom databases, custom workflows, and custom tools.
While some of these features are available in AutoCAD LT (which is only available on some platforms), most are not available in AutoCAD LT.
In February 2013, AutoCAD released AutoCAD LP and AutoCAD LT 2009 as Professional Edition and Standard Edition respectively.
In 2018, the release of AutoCAD 2018 included a full rewrite of the core of the software, but the graphical user interface and the toolbars are still based on the 2016 release.
DXF and DWG files are the most common formats used for importing into AutoCAD. The ability to import CAD data of different formats depends on whether the current drawing database version is compatible with the CAD data file format. The largest limitation is the availability of DWG files of older versions.
DXF files are supported by both the standard and Professional Edition of AutoCAD. The import of raster image files is supported only in the Professional Edition, where an extension is automatically added to the image when importing (unless the image is an RLE file, which is always imported as a raster image without an extension).
PostScript files can be imported in both the standard and Professional edition. The import format is set in the Preferences. Other supported formats include JPEG and PNG files.
The import of files with external references is supported in both standard and professional. For example, the import of a DBASE file containing drawings from external sources is supported.
Export to DXF
AutoCAD is capable of exporting to a range of vector formats. The output format is set in the Preferences. The file format is selected in the file save dialog.
Export to DXF is not supported in the standard edition.
Export to DWG
AutoCAD is capable of exporting to a range of image formats. The output format is set in the Preferences. The file format is selected in the file save dialog.

Update: AutoCAD 2023 will have built-in Markup Assist, a tool that allows you to quickly incorporate comments and notes into your drawing. We have a video showing how it works. Check it out.
Add points to annotations:
Use a coordinate system that’s different from the one you use for the rest of your drawings (X, Y, and Z with AutoCAD’s Coordinate System tool, or as vectors with the Insert Coordinate System option on the Annotation tool). You can define a custom coordinate system by using the Create Custom Coordinate System option on the Annotation tool.
One of the greatest advantages of AutoCAD is its ability to collaborate with multiple users. Whether you are working with a single user or several users, you can create, review, and edit drawings together in a shared environment. You can even link AutoCAD drawings with a PowerPoint® presentation and keep the drawing and presentation together even if you switch back and forth between using AutoCAD and PowerPoint.
The new Multi-User Workflow combines the best of both worlds: you can use the same drawing and present the same drawing at the same time. In addition to being able to work together on one drawing, you can have multiple copies of the drawing open at the same time. When you create a new copy of the drawing, the previous copy automatically becomes the active drawing. You can continue to work on the previous drawing, or switch back to the new drawing. This way, you don’t need to close and reopen drawings.
Powerful graphics tools:
