In a study of more than 1,000 of the world's greatest stories, author Joseph Campbell concluded that most of these stories conform to a common set of structures. These structures are so universally applicable that they can be mapped from Ancient Greek myths, Star Wars, Star Trek, Superman, Moby Dick, and The Iliad. The Hero's Journey Monomyth Software contains the patterns and templates for most of these stories.

What is the Hero’s Journey?
In his book, 'The Hero with a Thousand Faces', Joseph Campbell coined the term 'Hero's Journey' to describe the journey a great hero (or heroine) takes in order to achieve a goal. In essence, it describes the archetypal journey for the hero to complete. The archetypal journey for the hero is an interactive journey that is typified by a set of stages that we call 'the Hero's Journey'.
The 8 Stages of the Hero's Journey
In the book 'The Hero's Journey', Joseph Campbell described the 8 stages that the hero (or heroine) must pass through in order to complete his journey:
1. Ordinary world – This is the starting point of the hero's journey. In this stage, the hero is in the world as it is normally experienced by most people.
2. Call to adventure – The hero decides to leave his ordinary world to do something important. It is at this point that the hero makes the decision to 'turn', to walk down the 'hero's journey'.
3. Separation – In the second stage, the hero and his guardian leave his ordinary world in order to explore the unknown world of the unknown 'adventure.' This is the point at which the hero must make the decision to embark upon his adventure. He must separate himself from his current life.
4. Initiation – The hero begins his journey in the unknown world of adventure, and must undergo a period of separation, initiation, and preparation. This is the second stage of the Hero'
