I have tried the following thing to fix this problem. I have connected the power supply from the tester directly to the 5V rail in the analogue meter. This means that the power supply gets its power from the tester. Then the tester has its own power supply and the tester can be used to test the analogue meter without disconnecting the mains power.
Alternatively, you can use the following adapter to connect to the mains socket. This will charge the adapter when mains power is connected, and then supply power to the analogue meter.
The adapter can be taken apart to be re-used.
