On anyone’s list of things that are undeniably cool, lasers take one of the top 5 spots easily. I mean, look at them, they’re lasers! If you like them at least as much as I do, then you’re probably also interested in knowing how they work.
But if physics is like a foreign language to you, then reading about it may not be of great help, unless you try and pair it with a cool simulation aptly titled Lasers.
A colorful little Java application
Now remember that Lasers was designed as an educational app, so don’t expect it to give you any answers if you don’t know what questions to ask. It’s safe to say that you could learn the most from the simulation if you had a teacher properly explain each function.
But with just enough YouTube videos and short articles, you may come to understand that a laser is actually an acronym for light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation and that it can be created by exciting the electrons of atoms (which are kept in special containers, between two mirrors that are facing each other) until they emit light particles called photons. This is basically what you do with this Java simulation.
Time to experiment!
In the first tab, you get to excite only one atom with light in order to make it release new photons. Remember that the lamps aren’t actually the lasers, as you only create one after you check the Enable mirrors option; remember to set an optimum transparency level for your second mirror, so that the photons can bounce back and forth but still escape the container.
In the second tab, you use a few lamps at a time in order to excite a multitude of atoms, thus creating a far more powerful laser. You’ll probably start having fun once you get the hang of it, but be careful not to (spoiler alert!) blow your laser up.

Here’s a quick and dirty breakdown of the main functionality:
A click on the add atoms button, located on the bottom left, creates a grid of 10×10 dots. Each dot is set to a transparency of about 5%, so the bigger the dots, the more transparent they are. If you double-click on a dot, it will excite the atoms inside the container, creating a single, more powerful laser.
Once there are enough atoms excite, a powerful laser appears underneath the container, which you can click and drag to move in the visible 3D space. This is also where you can watch the laser pulse, as it gets stronger and stronger over time.
The third tab is the one where you can do three things to the laser, namely, turn it off, reduce the power, and increase the power. Remember that Lasers Torrent Download is designed to be educational and not for entertainment purposes.
You can also view the amount of power and know when the laser needs to be turned off, when it’s enough, or when it’s too much. If you set the transparency too low, the laser will fail to work.

In this tab, you can see how you can create your first laser with very basic equipment. For example, one tab has a simple laser mounted on a system consisting of 7 brass tubes.
When you check the higher power level, you can see how the laser beam is split and that you can change the power level with a pair of knobs at the top.

I used this Lasers description to help build the app. It is a standard webpage with some interesting features, such as a four colors section to choose from, some animation effects, and hyperlinks to other sites of interest.
Since I’m not too familiar with html, I’m not saying anything other than I think it was done quite well.

Lasers are cool. If you’ve played Minecraft you will probably understand what I’m talking about. They have hit mainstream news as of late, which is a very exciting time, especially for a teenager like me. I think that laser eye surgery is certainly a great breakthrough, but it should be used in moderation, and no one should be subjected to it unless they actually have to.
