Using an in vitro model of liver microenvironment we showed that adenosine triphosphate (ATP) increased the expression of ACAT1 in hepatocytes and stimulated the migratory and invasive potentials of HCC cells. Additionally, we showed that ACAT1 is increased in HCC samples from Chinese patients. The level of ACAT1 in a 50-patient cohort of the HCC patients receiving treatment with oxaliplatin was found to be significantly associated with the chemotherapy efficacy and patient prognosis. ACAT1 may be a potential prognostic marker and therapeutic target in the treatment of HCC.Q:
